| Their first residents were the tribes náhuatls that gave place, from the XIX century, to foreigners' groups marveled by the beauty and climate of the Riverside. With their arrival and permanency they changed the landscape of this "village of fishermen" denominated this way by the father Orozco; to transform it in a place inhabited by foreigners and Mexicans, a place which several cultures converge. Between 1878 and 1920 people from other countries began to change the architecture of Chapala, by building summer properties of European style, that so far adorn the street that ends to the pier, many other became in buildings that can be inhabited by some days. The natural great attractiveness of Chapala is, of course, the lake; in its interior is located the Island of the Scorpions, whose name corresponds to the form that has the same one. In the pier is formed a line of informal merchants that offer to the peasants infinity of products like ice creams, the famous charales to be eat like snacks, typical candies, grenade punch and memories of their visit. Settled down in the Riverside there are around 500 handmade shops, a market where is enjoyed the gastronomic tradition of the place and several places of rest, spas, golf fields and tennis courts. |
